World Wars: The Struggles that Shaped the Modern World

The 20th century witnessed two devastating global conflicts that reshaped the world’s political, economic, and social landscapes. These wars involved most major powers and left an indelible mark on history.

**World War I (1914-1918):**

Known as “The Great War,” it was a clash primarily between the Allies (France, Russia, and Britain) and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). The war ended with the Treaty of Versailles, imposing heavy penalties on Germany and setting the stage for future conflict.

**World War II (1939-1945):**

One of the deadliest conflicts in human history, World War II was fought between the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) and the Allies (Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States). The war saw the Holocaust, the use of nuclear weapons, and the fall of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. It resulted in the formation of the United Nations and the beginning of the Cold War.
